Our History
An anchor in the heart of the North Center community of Chicago, Lincoln Park Savings Bank was founded in 1948 with the acquisition of the Ogden Hills Savings charter by James J. Kane, Sr. Leadership of the bank has been held by two more Kanes: our founder’s son, James J. Kane, Jr. was President and CEO in the 1970s and one of his sons, James J. Kane III, currently holds that position. Another son – Edward J. Kane – is Senior Vice President and Chief Lending Officer. The bank's name came from our first location near Lincoln Avenue and Armitage Avenue – the gateway to Lincoln Park. Lincoln Park Savings Bank moved to its current location on Irving Park Road in 1956 as a single storefront operation.
We’ve stayed as involved in our community as we were when we opened the storefront. We not only write checks for community events, we’re in the dunk tank – we are that involved. Local students apprentice at Lincoln Park Savings Bank: we feel strongly about nurturing young people from the neighborhood about the world of the workplace.
One of the few mutually-owned independent banks, Lincoln Park Savings Bank helped build this community and remain committed to continuing the tradition of our founder as a community-based residential mortgage lender. In 2001, we began to expand our operations to include other Chicagoland communities with the additions of our Elmwood Park and Roscoe Village branches. In 2005, we moved our Elmwood Park office to Chicago’s Montclare neighborhood.
Today, we have the global abilities of the bigger banks but will never stray from our neighborhood commitment. Because of our independent structure, we can make decisions on a person-by person basis, decisions that help our customers without the complications of shareholders. We will never forget the days of a handshake and a promise because we know that relationships are our true business.
